The E.V.F.D. was organized in 1889 and for more than a century, its members have put the safety of Etna citizens first during times of crisis - fires, floods, spills, etc. The fire station is located in the Borough Building on Butler Street. The department also has an activities hall on Crescent Avenue, next to the Etna ball field, which can be rented for private parties.
The cost of fuel, vehicle maintenance, radio equipment, and part of the department's insurance, along with other minor items, are paid by the borough. The bulk of the day-to-day operational expenses, cost of equipment maintenance, repair and replacement, ongoing fire-fighter training and new fire-fighting vehicles must come from fund raising activities and donations. Community support for these and other E.V.F.D. functions is vital to insure the future of the department. The major fund-raiser is the firemen's street fair and raffle held every year in the ball field in May or June.
