Etna public school children, from kindergarten through twelfth grade, attend classes in the Shaler Area School District. Along with Etna, the district also serves the communities of Shaler Township, Millvale, and Reserve. In addition to general classes, Shaler also offers gifted and special education programs to meet the needs of all students.
Of the five elementary schools housing kindergarten through fourth grade, Etna students attend either Marzolf on Marzolf Road, Jeffrey on Wetzel Road, or Burchfield on Burchfield Road. Students from all four communities come together for 5, 6, and 7th grades at the Middle School on Scott Avenue; and eighth and ninth graders attend the Intermediate School on Mt Royal Boulevard and grades 10, 11 and 12 are at the High School on Wible Run Road. First through 12th graders are bussed to and from school. Kindergarten children are bussed one way - to school for the morning session and home from school for the afternoon session. Parents are responsible for the alternate one-way transportation.
Snow delays or closings are reported on most of the Pittsburgh morning radio programs.
Etna residents vote for and are represented by three members of the school board.
