Blueprint Update
The COPS VS KIDS basketball game was an enjoyable evening for all who participated and watched the game. This is the fifth year of this event and we are so very grateful to our Etna Police and other local police who participated this past August. The score had been tied up – 2 games for the kids and 2 games for the cops – the cops won this year, breaking the tie! Thanks to all who helped!
Teen Day, held on September 3, proved to be a fun day with hamster ball races courtesy of Buchart Horn, Inc., free food cour-tesy of Feed the Flock and the First Congregational Church of Etna, Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the Calvert Presbyterian Church. Free prizes for the kids were provided by many of our local businesses. The night capped off with a Disco Dance! The Borough provided free tie-dye tee shirts reading “I Survived Teen Day!” We are happy to celebrate the youth of our community!
Blueprint is now working with the Teens to decorate the ornaments for the town Christmas trees with our local senior organizations and to help out at Light the Night!
The Borough will be reaching out to Shaler Area High School for interested teens who wish to apply for the Junior Council position on Etna Council. Shane Taylor, who served the last two years, has graduated and is now attending Duquesne Univer-sity. If you are a high school junior or senior from Etna and are interested in applying for this position, send a letter of interest with all your contact information to the Bor-ough Manager. Interviews will be scheduled for sometime in late November or early December.
Newest edition to Blueprint - the Etna Teen Advisory Board. Now up to twelve members, youth up to age 18 now serve on this volunteer board in an advisory capacity to the Borough. They attend meetings of the Etna Economic Development Corporation, the Etna Volunteer Fire Department, Etna Blueprint Committee and the Etna Neighborhood Association.
Teen nights will be held every other even numbered month. The first event was held in February, 2007 at the Calvert Memorial Presbyterian Church and the feature movie "Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest" was shown free of charge with hot dogs and snacks for everyone. Next event is scheduled for April. Look for updated information on location and feature.
